Call of Duty World War II
The latest Call of Duty game was released on Friday 3rd November 2017. Call of Duty World War II’s launch sales doubled last year’s Call of Duty’s launch sales, earning over $500million in sales alone. The new Call of Duty is set in the World War II era and has attracted so many fans, due to the fact it is has returned to boots on the ground. Over the past few years, Call of Duty titles have been set in the future and have included advanced movement systems, such as exo-suits or thrust jumps. A lot of players did not like the advanced movements systems and just wanted the original, boots on the ground. Therefore, Sledgehammer Games developed Call of Duty World War II to take Call of Duty back to its roots with boots on the ground.
There are three different modes within the new game, including the Campaign, Multiplayer and the massively anticipated, Nazi Zombies. Nazi Zombies sees an all new story line, in which 4 new characters must survive waves of the dead whilst seeking for a solution to their problem. Perhaps the most popular game mode within Call of Duty, Multiplayer is back to its original feel. As it takes place in World War II, players can experience battles in the trenches, in torn down cities or even in snowy battlegrounds, or they can choose to participate in the new game mode, within Multiplayer, War. In war, one team must defend, whilst the other team must attack and attempt to complete a variety of different objectives in order to defeat the enemy forces.
Another major change to Multiplayer is the implementation of Headquarters. Headquarters is a social area which players can interact with each other, in between games, and participate in various activities such as the firing range, the 1v1 arena or open supply drops. The new Call of Duty World War II can be purchased for the Xbox One in many different stores or through the Xbox Marketplace. History of Xbox
‘Xbox’ is a video gaming brand made by ‘Microsoft’, founded in 2001. Microsoft have created and developed over the years, three consoles, including this generations new ‘Xbox One’ and other devices and games. Microsoft was the first American company to offer a console after the Atari Jaguar stopped sales in 1996.
The original ‘Xbox’ console was launched on November 15th 2001 in North America, costing £299 to purchase, and was ‘Microsoft’s’ first foray into the gaming market. However, they were not the only company selling consoles at the time as it had to compete with ‘Sony’s’ PlayStation 2 and ‘Sega’s’ Dreamcast.
Xbox Live Launch
A year after the release date of the ‘Xbox’, a new feature was added called Xbox Live. Allowing players from all around the world to play:
- against & with each other using a broadband connection.
- Logging into your account
It at first had to compete against Dreamcast’s online service and later it had to primarily compete with PlayStation’s online service.
Although, you had to pay a subscription for ‘Xbox Live’ unlike the others, it was a success as it had better servers and specific features such as the ‘Buddy List’ and revolutionary titles such as ‘Halo 2’.
After the original Xbox was a huge success, Microsoft releases the Xbox 360 in November 2005 which had to compete against ‘Sony’s’ PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii, costing around £325. On May 12th 2005, the Xbox 360 was officially unveiled on MTV with more detailed information released at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
Instantly, Microsoft saw its biggest number of sales yet with it selling out completely upon release in all regions except Japan. An expanded version of Xbox Live was introduced to the ‘Xbox 360. This allowed players to stream multimedia content from PCs and purchase/stream music. Stream television programmes and films directly from the ‘Xbox Store’.
Microsoft released a device which changed the gaming industry, called the ‘Xbox Kinect’.
The ‘Kinect’ is a motion control system for the ‘Xbox 360’ which used an advanced sensor system. During their E3 presentation on June 14th 2010, ‘Microsoft’ announced that there was going to be a redesigned which is slimmer and has a bigger memory system. As of June 30th, 2013, 78.2 million ‘Xbox 360’ consoles have been sold worldwide.
On May 21st 2013, ‘Microsoft’ announced the arrival of one of this generation’s new console ‘Xbox One’ however the console itself was not revealed until June 10th at E3.
The Xbox One was released on November 22nd 2013 in North America, costing £429. The Xbox One includes a new, more advanced Kinect that can track your heart beat and can recognise the slightest of movements.
It competes against ‘Sony’s’ PlayStation 4 and ‘Nintendo’s’ Wii U. Upon its unveiling, it had some negative responses about some new features such as, needing a connection to the internet every 24 hours or else it will stop the user from playing any games and its higher pricing than any other games consoles.
Many new features have been introduced taking gaming to the next level. The Xbox One can now be controlled with a better, more advanced voice control.
Using the Upload Studio app, gamers can now record and edit their own, individual game footage and can upload them directly from their consoles. Over 4 million consoles have been sold as of February 2014, which unfortunately for ‘Microsoft’ does not match Sony’s PlayStation 4 sales numbers.
